Education
Pedro Chaves attended the University of Costa Rica (UCR) graduating with
honors in 1986
Incorporated as a Notary Public before the ‘’Dirección Nacional de
Notariado’’ (Notary Public Authority) in 1986.
Specialization in Commercial Law from the UCR graduating with honors
in 1991.
Pedro Chaves is a highly prized attorney in Costa Rica and possesses vast
expertise in the field of Commercial Law. He is a pioneer amongst the legal
profession and as such has held important posts as a legal advisor before
different Government Institutions and in the private sector in Costa Rica.
He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Bar Association of
Costa Rica (Colegio de Abogados) and of the National Registry. Lecturer
of Trademark Law in the Master’s Program in Intellectual Property at the
UNED. Lecturer of Law since 1987 at the University of Costa Rica (UCR)
and at present he is Professor of Commercial Law at this Institution.
Pedro Chaves is a founding Partner of Promotora de Propiedad Intelectual,
S.A. (E-Proint), and an active member of INTA, ASIPI, APPCR, and IIDA.
He is a Statutory Auditor of the Costa Rican Internet Business Chamber.
President of the Administrative Registry Tribunal (2001-2002, hierarchic
superior of the Registries for Industrial Property, Copyrights, and others).
He has held positions in the Judicial Branch such as Receiver for firms in
liquidation, Alternate Superior Justice of the Superior Administrative and
Civil Tax Trials Court and the Second Civil Superior Court of San José.

Intellectual Property, Administrative Law, and Bankruptcy Law.
